DEAR 2025

The Deaf Evangelistic Adventist Fellowship (DEAF) hosted the 24th Annual Deaf Eastern Autumn Revival (DEAR) Camp Meeting from October 9–12, 2024, at the Mt. Aetna Retreat Center in Hagerstown, MD. The theme, “Are You Prepared for Christ's Return?” included messages such as “How to Survive in the Time of Trouble,” which calls for faith and endurance, and “God’s Last Message,” a final gospel call to prepare for Christ’s return. As Matthew 24:44 (NKJV) says, “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

The weather was beautiful—sunny skies, colorful fall leaves, and a slight chill in the air. Thirty-eight people from many states attended.

Many attendees were eager to leave work early for a much-deserved, restful weekend at camp. After dinner, Mike and Beth Dobson opened the camp meeting with a warm welcome. Paul and Tina Kelly led icebreaker activities to help everyone get to know each other, asking a series of fun and thoughtful questions. Attendees shared childhood stories and embarrassing moments—though we won’t spill the details here. What was said in the room, stayed in the room!

Friday, October 10

Alan Meis, a gifted teacher, shared insights on “God’s Last Message.”

David Trexler followed with a deep analysis of Revelation 17, helping us discern false prophecy. Jeff Jordan, representing Adventist Deaf Ministry International, brought exciting news about the fast-growing Deaf Adventist communities around the world. Jesus is coming soon—Amen!

The afternoon was filled with activities, crafts, and games. Some attendees visited nearby Greenbrier State Park for a peaceful stroll in the perfect sunny weather.

As the sun set, we welcomed the Sabbath with the Lord’s Supper. Men and women separated to wash each other’s feet with sincerity, then came together to partake of the bread and wine in remembrance of Jesus’s sacrifice.

Sabbath, October 11

We began the day with an engaging Sabbath School lesson led by Earnest Sigamoney, focusing on Rahab’s character and her faith in God. David Trexler delivered a sermon about our names in the Book of Life—God has a name for each of us. We’re all curious to know what ours will be when we reign with Jesus in heaven.

After lunch, Farrah Gooding-Santiago directed the filming of the beloved Adventist hymn, “We Have This Hope.” Catherine Langan, Nicolette and Shakira Reynoso, Terese Rognmo, and Farrah signed the song beautifully. Josiah Kelly filmed in a circular motion to symbolize unity among brothers and sisters in Christ. Many attendees joined in signing the powerful, goosebump-inducing song, filled with the blessed hope that Jesus is coming again! The video was a hit—garnering 200 views in just 24 hours, compared to other ASL songs that take a year to reach that number. Amen!

With hearts full from the inspiring music, attendees received clarity on prayer through a presentation by Francisca Trexler. One person shared that they finally understood how to pray, thanks to Francisca’s clear explanation.

The rest of the afternoon was spent visiting the nature center, strolling around the camp, and fellowshipping.

To close the Sabbath, Josiah and Monica Kelly, along with the cast, led a skit about Daniel and the Lion’s Den.

Beth Dobson ended the evening with a circle of testimonies. Many attendees shared inspiring stories that encouraged everyone to stay close to Christ.

Sunday, October 12

Not ready to say goodbye, we gathered for a prayer meeting, lifting up each attendee and preparing our hearts for Christ’s return.

Later, we surprised Joan Hodge-Wilson at a nearby nursing home to celebrate her 99th birthday! We suspect she’s hiding her real age—she looks 60 years young! Her husband, Claude, is aging gracefully and still has a sharp mind, sharing stories from the past 94 years.
